Hamburg, meine Perle

Hey there,

As I constantly got asked about my favorite spots and things to do in Hamburg, where I am living for around 2,5 years now, I thought about writing a quick blogpost about some to-do’s and must-see’s :-) There are probably way better guides as I haven’t been living here for too long and also have been away quite a while but I am sure I have at least some nice spots for you to go to.

Obviously, when visiting Hamburg, you should go and see the Speicherstadt and the harbour. When around and catching some nice weather go to Strand Pauli and enjoy a drink(or two) at the beautiful beach bar located right next to the harbor, overlooking the Elbe. When free at night may try out one of our musicals, I really loved Kings of Leon. Strolling from the harbor to the Speicherstadt don’t miss out passing by Jungfernstieg as well, where lots of shops, from commercial to high end luxury brands, are located and stop by for a quick lunch at Atelier F for some delicious goat cheese salad or at oren-ishii for the best vietnamese food ever! For breakfast around this area go to Nord Coast Roastery and order their waffles(with some extra nutella;). Dinner is just incredibly good at Henssler if you’re craving some good sushi, Zum Spätzle is mouthwatering southern german cousine and if you’re more up to italian food, especially great (truffle) pasta, head over to Pane e Tulpani.

I personally also love the Schanze, where you can easily take the train from the central station and the city(around 5 mins). It’s more alternative and creative and has lots of cute little shops like Frida and Fräulein Wunder as well as lots of restaurants and cafes. I would, for example, recommend you Cafe Elbgold for a coffee stop, Herr Max for some yum cakes and Deli/Bullerei for a dinner and a fun evening.  Still in Eimsbüttel, the same area as the Schanze, you can find Happenpappen, my favourite vegan lunch place with the best ever cakes and breads: You simply HAVE to try their chocolate-banana-bread and their avo-lime-tarte, it’s incredible. They also make fantastic bowls and change their menu daily(never failing tho!). Also a great place around this area, preferably for breakfast, is BalzBalz, where you have to order the Deichkäse-bread! And they have great coffee!

Heading a little north you’ll find lots of great shops in Eppendorf, starting from Eppendorfer Weg to Eppendorfer Baum. One of my favorite shops there is the shoe shop GO and the eyewear shop VIU. There you can have some breakfast or lunch at the pale-friendly Paledo or head to Tassarajah for a super vegetarian dinner.

I hope that you get to do and see some of the places and have a fun time in Hamburg!
