So here it is… My first really personal post.
It is something I actually wanted to do from the start but it is so much harder than I expected it to be.
What to chose as your first theme you wanna say your very own opinion about?
As I am working as a model full-time I am really familiar with the fashion industry and its own-created symbol of beauty. A non-healthy symbol of beauty got created lots of years ago by fashion designers and editors of worldwide known magazines. This is wrong but here comes our fault at the same time: We just adapted it without questioning it. I can tell you that you don’t have to try to look like the girls in the magazines, the girls on huge campaigns or even the girls on platforms such as instagram. I can tell that every single picture is pimped with photoshop, filter (or even both) and -most important- it is arranged. That’s what you have to keep in mind. Of course you don’t see everything celebrities or blogger are experiencing, feeling and look like. They let you see what they want you to see. And so do I until a certain point. Therefore please don’t get me all wrong: I don’t blame anyone for doing that, I just want to make sure that you are conscious about it and don’t feel bad not waking up under palm trees with the most delicous-looking breakfast and the cutest new dress ever. We all arrange our life on social media, whether famous or not because all we wanna see is an amazing lifestyle and beautiful people, a breathtaking landscape and the most delicious foodies we could ever think of. So this is what we try to show others than the other way around as well. It is ok, I am fine with that but, of course, sometimes I see somebody being somewhere paradisiac and all I am asking myself is “damn, why are you not there?”. It is especially frustrating when being sick at home, or sitting for hours in a train, or bringing out your garbage while it is raining. Yes actually we are all experiencing those moments. Even big celebs probably do. And that’s ok, trust me.
But then seeing girls being discouraged by fashion designers and magazines considering a slimmer figure as being aspirational seriously makes me sad, noticing how many get frustrated or unsatisfied with their appearance, starting to compare theirselves with others. Not saying that I never catch myself with exactly this kind of thought but this is what truly makes you feel worse. So accept yourself with your, to your mind, beauties and flaws and get more confident of your strength, self-acceptance ahead of your other thoughts.
And let me tell you a personal example: I am working as a model and therefore earning my money with my appearance so how on earth can I tell you that you should not compare yourself with others around you etc…?! Right! But I am, for example, am neither super skinny nor super tall. I don’t fit into this 1,80m-bony-skinny-sheme and although I am actually happy with my body I also sometimes look at those supeeer skinny girls thinking how amazing certain clothes look on them while it just doesn’t go with curves etc. Likewise have I read a comment like “ah and you’re pretending to work besides as a model” or something like that which, I admit it, brings you down for a moment and let you question your shape and look as well but then I have to tell myself – and so do you – that everybody is structured differently and there are, unfortunately, some girls maybe not being naturally bony-skinny but starving thereselves to adopt society’s beauty ideal but, come on, does anybody think that we are truly meant to look all the same? Pff.
If you are built skinny- that’s what you are built like; if you are built curvy- that’s what you’re built like! As simple as that. The only thing I really underline and wanna spread is that your body is your temple and you should treat it good, be active and eat(mostly ;-) healthy. Not for anybody else, just for yourself.
